What You’ll Gain from Your 1:1 with Marie
Marie has spent her career teaching, advising, training and working alongside teachers, children and families. Her 1:1 consultations offer teachers a confidential space to bring a real classroom concern, explore what may be happening beneath the behaviour, and find practical ways forward that recognise the needs of both the child and the teacher.
Personalised Support — Talk through a specific pupil, classroom challenge or situation and explore what may be happening beneath the surface. Practical Strategies — Leave with realistic, neuro-affirming approaches you can put into practice in your classroom.
A Fresh Perspective — Step back from a situation and consider it through a relational, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming lens.
A Safe Space to Problem-Solve — Ask questions, share concerns and think things through in a supportive, non-judgemental 1:1 conversation Qualifications She is currently a doctoral candidate, researching autistic children’s social experiences in mainstream primary schools and educators’ understandings of how best to support them. Marie Byrne
Educational Consultant and Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist M.Ps.P.I ; M.I.A.P.T.P
Marie Byrne is an experienced teacher, education consultant, teacher trainer and child & adolescent psychotherapist, with almost 40 years in education and a particular focus on special education, autism and neurodivergence since 1997. Throughout her career, Marie has taught in mainstream, Special Education Teacher (SET) and autism class settings. She spent many years working as a Special Education and Autism Advisor with the Special Education Support Service (SESS) and the National Council for Special Education (NCSE), supporting teachers, SNAs and schools to develop their practice in special education and autism. Marie was also a founding member and coordinator of the Wexford Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland, helping to establish and run weekly specialist tuition programmes supporting hundreds of dyslexic children and their families across the South East. Alongside her work in education, Marie is a qualified child and adolescent psychotherapist specialising in play therapy. This enables her to bring a developmental, relational and psychotherapeutic perspective to understanding children and the challenges that can emerge in school. Marie’s work is also shaped by lived experience. She is neurodivergent herself and the parent of neurodivergent adult children. This intersection of lived experience, classroom practice, specialist advisory work, psychotherapy and research underpins her neuro-affirming and relational approach.
